Word from the Director
Ebony Feathers is a publishing house that opened in February 2021. It is currently located in Ouakam Tatou, No. 106, 100 meters from the central market, Dakar – Senegal. This publishing house was created to fill a gap in the large-scale production of high-quality books and to demonstrate, through both print and digital publishing, the connections between literature, fashion, visual arts, music, and cinema. It also supports emerging writers—those searching for their identity amid an unparalleled literary, artistic, and intellectual boom, fueled by an explosion of digital media platforms—helping them carve out their own path. At the same time, it assists established authors in expanding and sustaining the influence of their ideas around the world. Ebony Feathers is now two-headed—if not bilingual—as all publications will be available in both French and English from the very first day of this site’s launch: Maison d’éditions Plumes d’ébène / Ebony Feathers Publishing House.
The ebony feathers goals
The main objectives of Plumes d’ébène Publishing House can be detailed as follows:
– Establish a trust-based relationship between Plumes d’ébène Publishing House and its Authors.
– Propose an alternative contract, ours, with the authors' contribution evaluated at one-third of the amounts to be invested in the production of their books, agreed upon by both the publisher and the author.
– Ensure that authors can quickly exercise their rights and receive their royalties as stipulated in the contract signed by both parties.
– Rewrite each book to be published as a work of art that will feature on the front cover (this measure mainly applies to fiction books, across all categories).
– Ensure that each published book is distributed as widely as possible geographically.
– Guarantee that each book sold up to the 500th copy can be translated into English by the 1000th copy sold, and if the book is a fiction work, the publisher is obliged to have it adapted into a film script.
– Involve the author in all matters concerning the printing and sale of their books.
